Needle Felting
NEEDLE FELTING DOLLS

Needle Felting is great fun (if you don't mind the occasional prick or stab of a needle in your finger!). Its repetitive motion allows
your mind to wonder as you prod away. Your thoughts can be anything from a creative journey to dealing with day-to-day
problems and issues.

My journey into needle felting started in 2003 when I stumbled on a felting needle and wool at the Melbourne Stitches
and Craft Show. It was at a stall where they were demonstrating making teddy bears but when I saw what they were
doing I had other ideas........ I was going to make a face and maybe even a body!!!!!!

I left the show with bright orange wool and a rather vicious looking needle and
started my project as soon as I arrived home. I have always loved wool and knitting
and even own knitting machines but this was someting different!!!! I loved the way
the wool felt as I prodded and pricked away forming my little orange man. I named
him 'Ugly Albert" and crocheted him a pair of pants.

I was totall smitted with needle felting and found Brigitte Krag Hansen's book on using the felting
needle. I followed her instructions carefully, starting with a small oval of firmly needle felted
wool. Somehow I seemed to constantly have to add wool to mine so it turned out rather large.
I named it (I am still not sure if it is a him or her) 'Head'. Head was never going to get a body
because if would have to be too large........ so, it is simply "Head"

Head was soon followed by the African sisters.
